Meet Lady Moon Herself

I make an enormous effort to abstain from purchasing odds and ends from all the estates sales I go to. A lot of times it is a huge feat, especially to restraint myself from buying knick knacks and furniture. My main focus has been expanding my business, so I have limited myself to only buying clothing and accessories. Then I saw Her. She was sitting at the end of a lonely couch in the front living room at a sale. I had actually had a frustrating day, waking up particularly early for another sale and had found nothing. I rerouted my drive home to stop by a second sale, hopefully to redeem my morning. Thinking I may get lucky and find a whole closet of outrageous garb untouched; instead, I found a mascot.

So, please meet Lady Moon in the plush!

One On One

Manchester PR firm just starting blogging and Lady Moon was the FIRST to be interviewed! Check out the full interview.

How did you come up with the name of “Lady Moon Vintage”?

Lovely Lady Moon was a name I used frequently, as a kind of persona. It only made sense to continue that. I guess it originally started because I have always been inspired by the art and fashion of the Art Deco movement. I have a gorgeous Vogue cover print by George Wolfe Plank, which has an out-of-this-world clad muse lounging on a crescent moon. Nothing is more fabulous!

What are you looking for when you’re seeking vintage pieces for your store?

My check list for choosing the best vintage for the shop:

1) Wearability – Dealing with vintage things, especially older pieces, some can be too fragile or too valuable to wear. As I love to admire these things, I don’t want to sell collectable pieces.

2) “It” Factor – There has to be something about it. Whether it’s in the construction, design or quality, at least one of its attributes has to make a statement.

3) Relevancy – I look for clothing and accessories that will fit into the modern girl’s closet. I follow the trends to stay in the know about what is fashion forward.

What seems to appeal to your customers?

Wearable, functional vintage pieces appeal to my customers. My vintage items, whether it would be a stellar 1940s jacket or a pair of wonderfully worn-in oxford boots from the 1980s, can be mixed and matched with what she already has in her closet. The most stylish people have a great balance between new, vintage and handmade pieces in their wardrobe.

Clogs & Blogs

The shop was mentioned in Every Clog Has Its Day blog! A blog dedicated to wooden soled shoes - "If I could, I'd wear a different pair every day. Wooden shoe?" These slate gray clogs by Bastad, and another pair not yet listed, made it into the blog's Saturday Flea Market series.

This Old Thing

Most of the time I find it difficult to part with my vintage finds. Thankfully not everything is my size or I would absolutely convince myself not to. A lot of the clothes in my closet are previously loved, thrift store finds. I find them special, maybe it’s because they have a past story. And every once in awhile I find the most outrageously special item, that is no doubt staying in my possession. This coat from the 60s has taken up permanent residence in my closet. I really don’t think it can get anymore perfect than this. Outstanding design, beautiful construction, daring color, and pop lining. Oh, and a perfect fit.
